Dr. Nhan Tran was born in Viet Nam and grew up in the United States where he completed studies in international relations and modern languages. He obtained a graduate degree in International Public Health and a PhD in Health Systems Research with an emphasis on road traffic injuries from the Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health. Dr Tran worked at the regional and federal levels of the United States Department of Health and Human Services in various capacities managing programmes and as a science advisor. Later, as a researcher at Johns Hopkins University, Dr Tran was engaged in health systems and road safety research and helped to establish the International Injury Research Unit. Dr Tran joined WHO in 2011. For the last 6 years, he was the Manager of the WHO Alliance for Health Policy and Systems Research where he lead the development of guidance and initiatives to facilitate the implementation and scale up of proven effective interventions. Since October 2017 Dr Tran is the Head of Safety and Mobility of the Unintentional Injury Prevention Team (UIP). He co-ordinates work in the areas of unintentional injury prevention focused mainly on road safety, injury surveillance/surveys and alcohol and drug-related injuries.

Edwin Bastiaensen is a Dutch national and graduated in Industrial Design Engineering at Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands. He has over twenty years’ experience with research & development, management and deployment, global regulations and licensing of advanced vehicle, traffic and transport technologies and systems. In 2011 he was appointed as Secretary General of IMMA, the International Motorcycle Manufacturers Association, in Geneva, Switzerland. Previous to joining IMMA, Edwin was Senior Manager Strategic Research and Intellectual Property with the global leader in navigation, TomTom. He was also Safety coordinator with ACEM – the European Motorcycle Industry Manufacturers Association in Brussels, coordinated EU projects for ERTICO – ITS Europe, and worked in the Ministry of Transport in the Netherlands. He acted regularly as independent consultant for various institutions including European Commission on Intelligent Transport Systems, Electronic Fee Collection, Advanced Driver Assistance, Galileo, Telematics and Road Safety.

Jesper Christensen was born in Denmark. Since 2006 Mr. Christensen is Secretary General of the Swedish Motorcyclist Association (SMC). SMC is an NGO with 21 district organizations, 400 associated clubs and 70,000 individual members. The SMC School has been providing safety training for 45 years and organizes around 300 training courses each year with 15,000 participants. Jesper Christensen was appointed in 2012 as Director for Public Affairs at the International Motorcycling Federation. Mr. Christensen is also advisor to the FIA High Level Panel for Road Safety. Previously Mr. Christensen was actively involved in the Nordic IT market. He worked in IMSI software, SurfEU/Tiscali and ESCOM (as General Nordic Manager). He is a passionate rider, instructor and owner of 6 motorcycles.

Dr Veneta Vassileva is responsible for coordinating the road safety activities of ACEM and its members. She also acts as ACEM representative within a multitude of European and international bodies and institutions.  She prepared the industry safety strategy “The safe ride to the future 2.0” launched on 1st October 2020. Dr Vassileva is managing the European large-scale industry project “European Motorcycle Training Quality Label”. Dr. Vassileva was a chairwoman of the Task Force who produced IMMA’s policy document ‘The Shared Road to Safety – a global approach for safer motorcycling’. Prior to joining ACEM, Dr Vassileva worked as a Project Manager at the European Red Cross Office, where she was in charge of coordinating the IV European Red Cross Road Safety Campaign and for the Bulgarian Red Cross as an expert on health promotion and prevention. Ms. Vassileva holds a Doctor of Medicine (MD) from Sofia Medical University (Bulgaria).

An Italian-Swedish national, Antonio Perlot is Secretary general of ACEM since 2014. In this capacity, he is responsible for leading and coordinating the work of the association and representing the motorcycle industry at European and international level. Prior to this, Mr Perlot served as ACEM Public affairs manager since 2006, advising the motorcycle industry on public and regulatory affairs. Between 2001 and 2006, Mr Perlot worked for the Federation of European Motorcyclists’ Associations (FEMA), first as Campaigns officer, then as Secretary General. Prior to that he worked at EPRO as a public affairs consultant representing clients from different industry sectors and, before that, in the NGO sector. Mr Perlot holds a BA in political science (specialisation in European integration) from La Sapienza University and a MA in Diplomatic studies from Società Italiana per l’Organizzazione Internazionale (SIOI).
